23-Year-Old Samuel Ezekiel Renamed ‘Hassan Abubakar’ For Kidney Harvest, Paid N1.7M While Syndicate Made N70M — Victim Narrates How Friend Deceived Him
ABUJA — A 23-year-old man, Samuel Ezekiel, whose identity was changed to Hassan Abubakar to facilitate illegal kidney transplant, has narrated how he was deceived by his friend and paid N1.7 million for his left kidney which syndicate allegedly resold for up to N70 million.
Ezekiel told police his friend, Emmanuel Ode, lured him under guise of “house job” and connected him to agent identified as Ben.
“They said they will change my name, that I will be bearing Hassan Abubakar. Then they took us to Federal High Court where they do affidavit,” Ezekiel said.
According to his lawyer Marshall Abubakar, the victim was taken to Wellington Clinic in Abuja where his left kidney was removed at night and he was given $1,250 in dollars, about N1.7 million.
Ezekiel said he handed money to Ode to hold before entering theatre.
“When I came out from theatre, later in evening Emmanuel came back, he already changed the money, then he now buy two phones, two power banks and two Wi-Fi. Then he now give me one and hold one,” he said.
After spending one week in hospital, Ode took him to hotel for two days, then to Cross River State for three months.
“We spent almost like three months in Cross River. Before I now ask him where is money, he tell me that money has finished. Then he now collected my phone and sell it. That is how we have transport and come back to Abuja.”
His mother, who discovered act after call from shop, reported matter to police.
Ode confessed: “We were coming back from football match when they were discussing kidney selling… Samuel picked interest… They gave us in total sum of $1,250. We bought phones, power banks, Wi-Fis, pants, jeans.”
Accused nephrologist, Dr. Chidiebere, claimed procedure followed law: “The sworn affidavit proves this thing is voluntary and there is no monetary gain.”
Police say investigation continues to track over 10 other victims linked to syndicate operating between Abuja, Nasarawa and Cross River.
