Army Rescues Kidnapped Wife Of Retired General, Arrests Two Suspects, Recovers AK-47 In Abuja
The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, who was abducted from her residence on September 1, 2026.
Troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison immediately launched a coordinated pursuit operation along multiple suspected escape routes after the incident.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops advanced through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis and made contact with the kidnappers.
Overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid response and superior firepower, the criminals abandoned the victim and fled into nearby bushes.
Mrs Adonkie was successfully rescued at Angwan Sabo Village. Troops subsequently intensified pursuit along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, while additional forces were deployed to block likely escape routes.
In a follow-up operation on September 2, 2026, troops intercepted fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
Two suspected kidnappers were arrested and troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Troops have continued clearance and tracking operations across the area to apprehend remaining suspects.
The Nigerian Army commended the vigilance and cooperation of residents and reassured the public of its commitment to protection of lives and property, saying it will sustain aggressive, intelligence-driven joint operations to dismantle criminal networks in the FCT and environs.
