My Moroccan Wife Has Been In Sheikh Gumi’s House For 11 Months — Kaduna Businessman Alleges Unlawful Custody And Forgery

A Kaduna-based businessman, Nasir Musa Idris, has accused prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi, of keeping his Moroccan wife in his custody for 11 months and evading police investigation and court summons.

In an interview with RFI Hausa, Idris alleged that the cleric, whom he met through a pharmacy on Isa Kaita Road, gained his family’s trust because of his status as a religious scholar.

According to Idris, his wife, a Moroccan national whom he married in Morocco with the approval of both Nigerian and Moroccan embassies and with all relevant documents including Foreign Affairs authentication and Police Character Report, had no prior link to Sheikh Gumi before he introduced them.

Idris said the dispute started when the cleric allegedly began interfering in his marriage and insisted they obtain a Sharia Court marriage certificate from Malali, Kaduna, despite having valid marriage documents.

He alleged that after he refused, the certificate was issued through the influence of a court director identified as Adamu, but was later challenged and voided by the court.

He further alleged that Sheikh Gumi subsequently fabricated two other documents which he used at a court on Daura Road to dissolve his marriage and at the High Court to block a case Idris filed against him.

Idris said he has filed multiple cases against the cleric:

1. A forgery case involving a public seal at Kawo Court, which the court has referred to the police for further investigation.
2. A case of enticing a married woman at Barnawa Court.
3. An abduction case at the Sharia Court in Malali.
4. A civil case where judgment was given in his favour, ordering the cleric to have no further contact with his wife.

He alleged that Sheikh Gumi has refused to honour police invitations and has continued to challenge the jurisdiction of the courts rather than deny the incident.

Idris recounted that on September 16, 2025, he was with his wife at his office when he received a call from the cleric through his son, Mahmud, who worked for him for over four years. He claimed the cleric said his wife reported having a problem with him and asked him to bring her for counselling.

“Out of trust, I took her to him. He told me to go and come back later. From Maghrib till after Isha, I called her and she didn’t pick. When I went back, everything had changed,” Idris said.

He alleged the cleric told him: “This girl is young, she is 23, release her. What is her future with you?”

Idris also dismissed claims by the cleric’s associates that his wife had been taken out of the country by her mother, insisting that immigration records and the Moroccan embassy have confirmed she is still in Nigeria and cannot travel without his consent as her husband.

“She has no relationship with him. He never knew her, she never knew him, except through me,” he said.

He said he has rejected calls for an out-of-court settlement, arguing that Sheikh Gumi is neither his wife’s family nor his own family to mediate under Islamic injunctions.

Idris called on President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, and security agencies to ensure the law takes its course, saying he has received threats but will pursue justice.

“If he is truthful, he should come to court and clear his name. If he is guilty, he should be punished. If he is innocent, he should be cleared. But my wife cannot remain in the house of someone who is not related to her,” he said.

As of press time, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has not publicly responded to the latest allegations. Police authorities in Kaduna are yet to issue an official statement on the investigation.
