We Invest In Technology So President Can Work Anywhere — Gov Lawal Defends Tinubu’s Absence
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State says Nigeria is investing heavily in technology to enable the President work from anywhere, as he defended President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly, saying the President remains on duty despite not attending the gathering in New York.
Speaking to Channels Television on the sidelines of the UNGA, Lawal dismissed criticisms trailing Tinubu’s absence as mere political statements.
He said President Tinubu had been clear that he was proceeding on a working leave, which means he is still actively working for Nigeria regardless of his location.
“I think these are just political statements. When the President traveled, he made it very clear that he is going on a working leave. Working leave — underline the statement, working leave. So which means wherever the President is, he is working for Nigeria,” Lawal said.
The Zamfara governor argued that modern governance allows the President to work from anywhere, noting that Nigeria is evolving and investing heavily in technology to enable remote work.
“Moreover, Nigeria is evolving and the President can work from anywhere. That is why we are investing so much in technology, to be able to work wherever you are. This is modernity and we are making progress in that area,” he said.
Lawal insisted there was nothing controversial about Tinubu’s absence, stressing that the President is not on vacation.
“I don’t see that to be any controversial, because he is not just resting, he is working for Nigeria,” he added.
President Tinubu was notably absent at this year’s UNGA, where Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading Nigeria’s delegation.
