Okpebholo: I Bought Fuel In London For N3,000 Per Litre, Nigerians Should Thank Tinubu — “Nigerians Are Enjoying At N1,400 Per Litre”
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has said Nigerians are enjoying compared to motorists in the United Kingdom where a litre of fuel sells for more than N3,000, while Nigerians buy petrol at around N1,400 per litre.
Okpebholo made the remark on Thursday at the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” flag-off in Edo State.
According to the governor, he visited London last week where he bought petrol and compared the price with what obtains in Nigeria after conversion.
“Let me tell you, after conversion, it’s about N3,000-something for one litre of fuel,” he said, adding that Nigerians are paying less for petrol than UK motorists.
“We are doing very well here. The President is stabilising the economy. He’s an economist,” Okpebholo said.
His comment comes amid public outcry over the rising cost of petrol and essential commodities following subsidy removal and pump price hikes.
The governor said the economic reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu are difficult but necessary and will eventually yield results.
He likened the reforms to an aircraft taking off, saying passengers do not get food until the plane reaches cruising altitude.
“I want to let you know, very soon Nigeria will be on the cruising level. Nigeria will be on a cruising level,” he said.
Okpebholo also cited ongoing road construction as evidence of development under the Tinubu administration and backed the Federal Government’s intervention on the deteriorated Benin-Asaba Road which has caused hardship for motorists between Edo and Delta states.
The Edo governor further declared support for Tinubu’s re-election ahead of 2027, asking those planning to challenge the President to reconsider.
“Is Aso Rock vacant? Is Aso Rock vacant? So Aso Rock is not vacant,” he said.
