Kano Govt Shuts Go-Fresh Drinks Factory Over Unhygienic Production

The Kano State Consumer Protection Council, KCPC, has sealed the factory of Joy Reap & Beverages, producers of Go-Fresh juice, after discovering that the company was operating under unhygienic conditions.

The action followed a routine inspection exercise embarked upon by the Council to ascertain the quality and safety standards of manufacturing companies in the state.

During the inspection, officials of the KCPC found that the Joy Reap & Beverages factory was violating basic hygiene regulations in its production process.

Images from the operation show bottles of the orange-coloured Go-Fresh drink soaked in dirty buckets, placed on a filthy floor, with production carried out in an untidy environment.

Confirming the development, the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, said the agency would not fold its arms and allow any company to operate in violation of safety and hygiene standards.

He said the closure was part of the Council’s efforts to protect public health and ensure that companies comply with stipulated guidelines in the production of consumables for the public.

The Council warned that it will continue to clamp down on companies that fail to adhere to hygienic and safety standards, in the interest of consumers in the state.
