Tinubu Should Be Re-elected For Another Term To Complete South’s 8 Years” — Kano Gov, Abba Yusuf
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on Nigerians to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 to complete what he described as the eight-year power-sharing arrangement between the North and South.
Yusuf made the remarks on Sunday at the Government House, Kano, while speaking during the flag-off of the distribution of 50 branded vehicles donated by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, (Tompolo), to support the All Progressives Congress, APC’s mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governor argued that the North had completed its eight-year tenure under Late former President Muhammadu Buhari between 2015 and 2023.
He said the South should therefore be allowed to complete its own eight-year tenure, under President Bola Tinubu before power should return to the North in 2031.
According to Yusuf, Tinubu has so far spent about three and a half years in office, leaving another four-year term to complete what he described as the agreed power rotation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been serving Nigeria for the last three and a half years. Now we are coming for another election. Therefore, it is our responsibility as Nigerians to agree that the President should be re-elected for another term of office,” Yusuf said.
Yusuf said the arrangement, would mean that by 2031 the South would have completed eight years in the presidency, after which the North would have the opportunity to produce the next president.
“At the end of that, power will come back to the North. And only Allah knows who will be the President of Nigeria,” he said.
He therefore appealed to northerners, particularly those in the North-West, to support Tinubu’s re-election bid, saying, “We have to exercise patience. May Allah get us through to 2031.”
The governor also called on politicians and their supporters to ensure that the 2027 campaigns were peaceful and issue-based, rather than on character assassination.
He urged candidates to showcase their achievements and what they intend to do if elected, saying political campaigns should focus on development and the welfare of the people.
He also thanked Tompolo for donating 50 branded vehicles to support APC structures and campaign activities, saying the vehicles would be deployed across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
Earlier, the Tinubu Door-to-Door movement announced plans for a nationwide grassroots mobilisation campaign, across the country to canvass support for President Tinubu.
Tompolo, disclosed the plan through the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, who is also Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.
Guwor said the movement would establish chapters across the northern and southern states before deploying ambassadors to wards and polling units to take its campaign directly to the grassroots.
“Every door will be knocked, every home will be knocked,” Guwor said, explaining that the strategy was aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
