FG Announces 30-Day Cheap Fuel: Nigerians To Buy Discounted Petrol At NNPC Stations

The Federal Government has announced a 30-day fuel price relief, saying Nigerians will buy petrol at discounted prices at NNPC filling stations nationwide.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

He said, “There’ll be a discount on NNPC petrol for the next 30 days, with priority for public transporters,” adding that the Federal Government will also have a “negotiated landing cost which will be reviewed monthly.”

Oyedele said government is taking further steps because existing measures have not fully addressed pressure on households and businesses following increases in fuel and transportation costs.

Under the proposed price modulation mechanism, government is negotiating a N1,350-per-litre ceiling on the ex-gantry or landing cost of petrol, subject to monthly reviews.

The minister clarified that the N1,350 ceiling does not mean petrol will sell for N1,350 at filling stations. Rather, it is intended to prevent sharp movements in global crude prices or exchange rate from immediately translating into increases in petrol cost.

“Pump prices should not have to follow every swing in global crude or the exchange rate. The government is negotiating a ceiling of N1,350 a litre on the ex gantry or landing cost of petrol to keep pump prices stable,” Oyedele said.

The announcement comes amid public complaints over high cost of living, transport fares and food prices linked to fuel subsidy removal.
