ADC VP Amaechi: How Security Agents Stopped Me From Flying During Jonathan Era

Vice-Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi, has recounted how security agents prevented him from travelling during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, era under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Amaechi disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja during the inauguration of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, according to Daily Trust.

The former Rivers governor said the experience did not deter him from continuing his political activities, adding that opposition figures must be prepared to face challenges in the course of their campaigns.

He recounted another incident at Akure Airport when he was prevented from flying, saying that the intervention of political leaders helped resolve the situation at the time.

“The experience showed that political campaigns could involve difficulties that required courage, persistence and collective action,” Amaechi said.

He said subsequent developments disrupted their travel arrangements at the time, adding that the experience reinforced the need for opposition politicians to remain prepared for unexpected challenges.

Speaking on the 2027 elections, Amaechi said incumbent governments always make the mistake of thinking they cannot be removed.

“Incumbent governments often make the mistake of believing they are invincible and cannot be removed,” he said.

He called on members of the ADC to unite behind the party, saying the time had come to stop disputes over primaries and focus on winning elections.

“If we are still quarrelling about the party’s primary, it is over. We have to win elections,” he said.

Amaechi urged members of the campaign council to recognise the responsibility before them, saying the task required determination, unity and willingness to overcome obstacles.

He also enjoined the campaign council to remain committed to its mandate and work collectively toward achieving the party’s objectives in the forthcoming elections.
