Borno Secures 9 Investment Deals At Lagos Roundtable, Dangote Allocates ₦366m Shares To IDPs, 6,000 Scholarships For Girls

Borno State has secured nine investment commitments at the end of its two-day Durable Solutions to Internal Displacement Private Sector Roundtable held in Lagos.

The roundtable, held on October 8 and 9, 2026, brought together over 20 private sector players across banking and finance, telecommunications, trade and commerce, impact investment, infrastructure development, housing and philanthropy.

Representatives of United Nations agencies including UNHCR, IOM and UNDP also participated, alongside the media.

According to a press statement issued on October 11 by Dauda Iliya, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media/Spokesperson, six private sector companies signed letters of commitment on the first day, with three additional organisations signing on the second day, bringing the total to nine. Other participating organisations collected commitment forms for further internal consultations.

To facilitate investment, two investors applied for and received land allocation approvals on the first day. Airtel also secured right-of-way approval to erect telecommunications towers to expand connectivity across the state.

Among the major outcomes, Dangote Group allocated shares worth ₦366 million for internally displaced persons and returnees, while Dangote Foundation pledged scholarships for 6,000 girls — 4,000 over the next six years as earlier announced and an additional commitment captured in the final communique.

The commitments are expected to expand private sector participation in Borno’s recovery through investments that support livelihoods, access to services and economic inclusion of displacement-affected communities.

According to the statement, the investment pipeline will be organised by sector and aligned with the relevant pillars of the Borno State 25-Year Development Plan.

The state government also announced ease-of-doing-business incentives including land for industries within two weeks, residential plots within 24 hours, waivers and incentives, an investor-friendly environment, an industrial hub, an international dry port and access to international markets.

To translate the outcomes into concrete projects, the Borno State Government, GIZ and, where necessary, Dyna-vest will establish an Investment Facilitation Support Group to follow up on commitments and pledges, with quarterly progress monitoring and reporting to track implementation and address challenges.

“The roundtable concluded with a focus on sustained engagement to turn investment interest and pledges into practical opportunities for internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities,” Iliya stated.
