BREAKING: Nigerian Police Detain Inspector Samson At CID Enugu After Viral Video Lamenting 27 Years In Service

The Nigeria Police Force has detained Inspector Ikwuje Samson at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Enugu, on October 14, 2026, after his viral video exposing welfare conditions in the Force.

The detention was disclosed by content creator D English Alhaji.

Inspector Samson, who said he has served for 27 years, lamented that after decades of service he cannot afford an Okada worth N1.2 million, while officers who served 37 years are allegedly given N1.7 million as retirement benefits.

“How can you work for 27 years, you cannot buy Okada of 1.2 million naira? 27 years in service, you no fit buy am. 37 years, they dey give you 1.7 million naira,” he said in the viral interview.

He said he came out to speak for over 200,000 officers going through frustration, depression and hardship, including poor welfare, housing and allowances, and that many officers cannot talk.

He also stated that his wife can no longer respect him because he has nothing to show for his service, and that if not for the small money collected from motorists, officers have “nothing to write home about.” He reportedly thanked motorists and begged Nigerians for forgiveness for that practice.

English Alhaji, who broke the news of the detention, called on the police to charge the Inspector to court if he has committed any offence, saying his legal team is ready to defend him.

“They have detained Inspector Samson for crying out loud. If the man don commit criminal offence, charge him to court. We will defend him in court,” he said.

As of press time, the Nigeria Police Force has not issued an official statement on the detention at CID Enugu.
