In a statement on October 15, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspects were arrested by the Surveillance Team attached to Farm Centre Police Division during an intelligence-led patrol.
Kiyawa said the team intercepted a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) along Sokoto Road on October 11 at about 10:30 p.m. on reasonable suspicion.
“Upon on-the-spot search, one Rufai Ahmed ‘M’, 19 years old, of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, was found with a bag containing one locally fabricated revolver pistol with two (2) rounds of live ammunition. The suspect was immediately arrested and the exhibit recovered,” the statement read.
Following a discreet investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, operatives of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department arrested an additional suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim ‘M’, 19 years old, of Kawo Quarters, Kano, in connection with the case.
The Command said the achievement was in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-led policing, sustained mop-up of illicit firearms, and zero tolerance for all forms of criminality.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has directed that discreet investigation be intensified, after which the suspects will be charged to court.
He commended the vigilance and professionalism of the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of illegal arms and criminality, urging members of the public to continue to support the police with timely and credible information.
