2027: NDC Denies Dickson Is Working For APC To Sabotage Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Ticket, Calls Claims Malicious Lies

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied allegations that its National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, is plotting to sabotage its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The denial was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Spokesperson, Osa Director, who described the allegations circulating on social media as malicious lies.

The director stated that contrary to the claims, Dickson has no plans to work for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 election. He stressed that the NDC National Leader is not a front for the ruling party and has no secret or open deal whatsoever with what he described as the ruinous and diabolical APC regime.

According to him, the party would have chosen to ignore the beer-parlour talk and murmurs circulating online, but decided to debunk it to prevent people from believing lies.

He argued that anyone who knows Senator Dickson’s public service record and is in his right senses will not associate him with any under-the-table arrangement to sabotage his own party and its presidential candidate and running mate, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The NDC spokesperson noted that Dickson, a serving senator, could have taken the easy way out by joining the APC, but instead chose the hard, honourable path of building a party with like-minds — a party that will liberate Nigeria from the vice grip of the buccaneers currently in power.

He further stated that Dickson’s consistent, courageous and principled position in the Senate for over seven years is a clear testament to his strength of character and unwavering solidarity with suffering Nigerians. Consequently, he said, it is wicked, vexatious and mendacious to associate his name with any compromise with the ruling APC and its key drivers.

The director claimed that the unfounded and baseless allegations are emanating from the ranks of political opponents who are envious of the growing popularity, acceptability and organic spread of the NDC across the length and breadth of Nigeria.

Dickson began his political career in the now defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), where he served as chairman in Bayelsa State from 1998 to 2000 and later as national legal adviser in 2000. He joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2005, served as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General under Governor Goodluck Jonathan from 2006 to 2007, was elected to the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2012, and served as Bayelsa Governor from 2012 to 2020. He won a senatorial seat for Bayelsa West in 2020 and was re-elected in 2023, before leaving the PDP in March this year to found the NDC ahead of the 2027 general election.
