2027: They Will Come For My Head If Atiku, Obi Defeat Tinubu — Wike Admits Risk, Says He’ll Be First Casualty If Opposition Wins

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, says he will be the first casualty if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election to Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi.
Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but is backing Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for re-election, said he is fully aware of the consequences of his political stance.
Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, the minister said his open support for Tinubu has already made him a prime target of his opponents.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” he said.
Wike said the threat of reprisal has not weakened his resolve, insisting he has no regrets openly identifying with the President.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he stated.
He said he has faced intense criticism and name-calling over his position but remains unmoved.
“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” Wike declared.[own]
Wike’s support for Tinubu has placed him in an unusual position ahead of 2027, backing the APC candidate while remaining in the PDP, and fuelling disagreements within the opposition as Atiku and Obi align with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition.
He said he understands a Tinubu defeat could expose him to political retaliation, but it will not change his decision to campaign for the President’s second term.
