“I Went To Rome To Pray Against Banditry, Terrorism, Insecurity” — Senate President Akpabio Embarks On Spiritual Pilgrimage To Italy
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that he embarked on a spiritual pilgrimage to Italy to pray for Nigeria’s peace, leadership and security.
Speaking on his return, Akpabio said he visited prominent holy sites in Rome, which he described as the capital of the Catholic Church and the world’s capital of Christianity.
“Well, I had to go to Italy. And, you know, Rome is the capital of the Catholic Church, and the world’s capital when it comes to Christianity. And from there, I touched St. Padre Pio’s mausoleum. And I did supplications,” Akpabio said.
According to him, he prayed not only for himself and the executive and legislative leadership, but for the entire country.
“I prayed not just for the President, not just for myself, the Vice President, and all members of the Senate and National Assembly, and the Federal Executive Council. I prayed for Nigeria as a whole,” he stated.
Akpabio said his prayers were focused on the nation’s security challenges, particularly banditry, terrorism and insecurity.
“I also prayed against insecurity, that God should free us from insecurity. I prayed against banditry; I prayed against terrorism,” he said.
The Senate President said his action might look funny to some, but it was rooted in faith.
“And it might look funny, but it’s the truth, because in our own religion, we believe that unless God protects the house, the watchmen watch in vain. And so, I decided to take this slight pilgrimage, a spiritual journey, to pray for Nigeria,” Akpabio said.
He expressed strong belief that the supplications offered during the pilgrimage would contribute to national peace and stability.
