Kano Film Censorship Board Summons NDC Political Singer Tijjani Gandu For Releasing Song Without Approval

The Kano State Films and Censorship Board has summoned popular NDC and Kwankwasiyya political singer Tijjani Gandu over the release of a new song which the board says was not submitted for vetting and approval.

This was contained in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Board, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, on October 3, 2026.

According to the statement, the Board’s regulations require that singers and writers submit their songs and other literary works for vetting before releasing them to the public.

The Board said the measure is aimed at ensuring that contents presented to the public do not contain materials capable of inciting unrest or disrupting public peace.

The Board has therefore asked Tijjani Gandu to honour the invitation, warning that failure to do so may amount to a violation of the law and may attract appropriate sanctions in accordance with relevant regulations.

Tijjani Gandu, who is known as a political singer affiliated with the NDC, is famous for releasing politically charged songs that often trend in Kano and across northern Nigeria.

As of the time of filing this report, the singer has not yet publicly responded to the invitation.
