Bauchi Police Arrest 35-Year-Old Man for Defiling 8-Month-Old Stepdaughter

Suspect: Balarabe Adamu

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Balarabe Adamu, for allegedly defiling his 8-month-old stepdaughter in Lame, Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, who disclosed his name as Balarabe Adamu, 35, from Lame town in Toro LGA, was paraded at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.

According to a police interrogation video, Adamu said he is married with two wives and six children.

He confessed that he committed the act shortly after Maghrib prayer while his wife had gone to take her bath, leaving the baby in his care.

When asked why he committed the act, the suspect blamed “temptation of the devil.”

He claimed he used his finger and rubbed his private part against the infant before the mother returned to find the baby crying in his arms.

SP Habib queried why he did not target his own biological daughters but chose his stepdaughter whom his wife brought into the marriage at three and a half months old.

Adamu, who said his wives were at home, stated that he “slightly regrets” the act and suggested an out-of-court settlement if it happened to his own child.

The PPRO faulted the suggestion, noting that the suspect’s family had attempted to settle the matter privately but the DPO of Gumau rejected it and insisted on prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated.

The command urged residents to be vigilant about who they trust around their children and to promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
