BREAKING: Tinubu Must Go Movement Writes Atiku, Peter Obi, Makinde, Sowore, Seeks United Opposition Front For 2027
The Tinubu Must Go [TMG] nationwide community, a citizen-led movement, has written to leading opposition presidential hopefuls requesting dialogue towards a united opposition front for the 2027 presidential election.
Letters dated 22 September 2026 and sighted by our reporter were addressed to former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, GCON, Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress [ADC]; Mr. Peter Obi, CON, Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress [NDC]; Engineer Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, Governor of Oyo State and Presidential Candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement [APM / PDP Alliance]; and Mr. Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress [AAC].
The letters, with reference numbers TMG/NAT/2026/001 for Atiku, TMG/NAT/2026/002 for Peter Obi, TMG/NAT/2026/004 for Makinde and TMG/NAT/2026/005 for Sowore, were routed through the National Chairmen of their respective parties. Copies show acknowledgement stamps from the ADC and NDC national secretariats dated 22 September 2026.
The movement said it brings together Nigerians across diverse political, regional, religious and demographic persuasions who have chosen to set aside partisan and individual preferences to advance a single objective: encouraging a united opposition front to offer Nigerians a viable, credible alternative to the current administration.
According to the letters signed by Abba Hikima, Esq. for Tinubu Must Go, the imperative for unity stems from Nigeria’s socio-economic and security trajectory under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The group said rather than arresting the nation’s critical challenges, current policies have exacerbated existential pressures across every key indicator.
On insecurity and human cost, the movement cited SBM Intelligence’s report, “The Capture of the Kidnap Economy” covering July 2025 to June 2026, which recorded 7,825 people abducted and 1,142 killed across 1,411 recorded kidnap incidents out of 1,713 total kidnap-related events. The report highlighted that Northern Nigeria accounted for 93.7 percent of all abductions and 96 percent of civilian fatalities, while Southern Nigeria recorded 6.3 percent of abducted victims.
The letters also cited economic strain and inflation, noting headline inflation and food inflation remain at historic highs, severely eroding the purchasing power of average households. It further listed poverty and unemployment, worsened by soaring energy costs, grid failures, escalating fuel and electricity tariffs, and a contracting formal job market that leaves youths disproportionately unemployed.
TMG’s primary appeal is for the leading opposition candidates to meet, engage in good faith, and explore every reasonable compromise capable of producing a single, consensus presidential candidate. The movement said it does not presume to dictate who should lead, who should concede, or what specific power-sharing arrangement should emerge.
It said those decisions are best resolved through direct, high-level dialogue among the leaders themselves, adding that the broader national interest must be given room to prevail before individual political ambitions become irreconcilable.
The movement disclosed plans to conduct an internal consultation among its supporters on Thursday, 24 September 2026, to gauge current preferences should it ultimately need to consolidate its grassroots structure behind a single platform. It stressed that the consultation remains strictly secondary to any consensus voluntarily reached by the opposition candidates themselves.
TMG added that it recognizes that every major opposition figure, along with their respective political structures and supporters, remains indispensable to the national rescue project before, during, and after the election, noting that its mission is coalition-building, not exclusion.
The group said it would be grateful for the opportunity to have a delegation meet with the candidates to formally present the appeal and discuss practical steps for advancing the dialogue.
In a transparency clause attached to the letters, TMG said, “In the interest of complete transparency and to engage the millions of young, digital-first Nigerians following this initiative, any formal reply or statement regarding this appeal may simply be posted directly on the verified social media handle of Your Excellency or your political party under the hashtag #TMG. Any such post shall be deemed as having officially reached us and served upon the TMG leadership and nationwide community.”[X][Facebook][Instagram]
