Even His Enemies Can’t Say He Is Not Intelligent, Hardworking, Bold And Fearless — Bello El-Rufai Hails Father Amid Detention
Member of the House of Representatives for Kaduna North, Hon. Bello El-Rufai, has described his father, former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, as an intelligent, hardworking, bold and fearless leader whose capacity even his enemies cannot deny.
Bello stated this in a documentary released by ‘The Justice For El-Rufai Project’ and shared on the former governor’s official X handle, where he spoke on his father’s ongoing detention and stringent bail conditions.
“There is this fear about Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. Because — even his enemies will never say he is not intelligent. He’s intelligent, he’s hardworking, he’s bold, he’s fearless,” Bello said.
The lawmaker said the strategy of keeping his father in detention to cripple the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition is disrespectful and misguided.
“So, there’s this notion that, ‘No, if we keep Mallam Nasir detained, the ADC will not work.’ But that is a very disrespectful notion to have. Because Mallam Nasir is not ADC. We have many leaders, some older than him, some wiser than him,” he said.
He warned that the continued detention would only make his father a political martyr.
“In fact, the longer you detain Mallam, the more you make him a martyr,” he added.
Bello also accused the government of selective justice, noting that while some former leaders facing EFCC cases are invited to the Presidential Villa, opposition figures face harsh treatment.
“They don’t even want to mention the amount of former leaders that are at EFCC’s, and once you go to EFCC, see them coming to Villa, being invited. How do you reconcile that? And the dangerous trend with that, is it leads to more public distrust,” he said.
“The Nigerian public already don’t trust us as politicians. Now, when they see justice is served differently, further distrust spreads within the system,” Bello stated.
