“I Am Completely Fine” — Stabbed Sokoto Cleric, Sheikh Musa Lukwa, Breaks Silence After Surviving Attack

Stabbed Sokoto Islamic cleric, Sheikh Malam Musa Lukwa, has broken his silence hours after surviving an assassination attempt inside his mosque, assuring his followers that he is in stable condition.

In a video message recorded shortly after receiving treatment, the prominent cleric called for calm across Sokoto metropolis, saying he feels no pain.

“Everyone should calm down, I am completely fine, there is no problem at all. I am well and feel no pain in my body. May Allah grant us protection. We are grateful for the efforts you have all made, thank you, and may Allah reward you.”

The video address came after tension gripped Sokoto on Friday when a young man among worshippers stabbed the cleric twice in the neck shortly after he led the Juma’at prayer at his mosque in the Mabera area.

Other worshippers immediately overpowered and killed the attacker on the spot.

Police spokesman in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, confirmed the incident, saying the cleric is responding to treatment at the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, while the attacker was lynched by followers.

The attack is reportedly linked to a previous sermon by the cleric which some scholars considered offensive to the parents of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The sermon had already generated tension, with a man identified as Mai Barewa allegedly threatening the cleric and one of his senior students. Mai Barewa was arrested and arraigned, with the case still in court.

Four days before Friday’s attack, the cleric and his followers had submitted a written complaint to the Sokoto State Government over threats to their lives.

News of the stabbing had triggered protests by youths in areas including Sahara, Bello Way and Aliyu Jodi, forcing shop owners to close as security operatives were deployed to strategic locations.

The police have urged residents to remain calm.
