Islamic Scholar Reveals How He Uses Artificial Intelligence To Expand Knowledge And Global Da’awah

An Islamic scholar has explained how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed his research, preaching, and content creation, insisting that AI does not contradict Islamic law if used properly.

Speaking on the concept of AI with BBC Hausa, which he described as ƙirƙirarriyar basira, the scholar defined it as machine intelligence endowed by humans with the ability to perform deep analysis on any information fed into it.

“This is AI, Artificial Intelligence, or what we call synthetic intelligence. It is machine intelligence, gifted by humans with the capability to perform deep analysis on whatever data is fed into it,” he said.

He said his primary goal as a scholar is to seek knowledge, create a message, and convey it to people – a task AI has now made easier.

“From the moment I realized that Artificial Intelligence could help me manage my time, expand my thinking, search for knowledge, and deliver it easily and widely, I started using it,” he stated.

The scholar explained that his methodology begins with traditional research – reading, consulting books and scholars – before turning to AI for additional insight.

“After finishing my reading, carrying out my research, and consulting books or scholars, I then ask AI, ‘What is your perspective on this standard or topic?’. When it responds, it often brings out two or three aspects that did not occur to me during my initial research. Consequently, when I incorporate them, you find that the message comes out remarkably different from the usual,” he said.

Beyond research, he said he uses AI extensively for processing his messages and producing videos.

For instance, when he delivers a sermon or lecture, he sends it to AI tools to convert it into an AI avatar video – a digital clone of himself that delivers the same lecture, sometimes in English or another foreign language, to reach a wider audience.

He also uses AI for video editing, noting that video is now the most effective medium for conveying messages.

“Because we have discovered that video is currently the most effective medium for conveying messages, this artificial intelligence helps us immensely with editing videos, reducing or adjusting audio, and generating relevant visuals that complement the message,” he said.

On the Islamic perspective of using AI, the scholar was emphatic:

“There is a major benefit I gain through using AI: AI does not contradict Islamic law (Sharia) as long as one knows how to utilize it properly. The fundamental rule of using any device depends on a person’s intention and the method by which they use it.”

He therefore called on fellow religious scholars to leverage AI to enhance their preaching, manage their time efficiently, and reach a global audience.
