Kano Police Invite Hon. Warkal Over Viral Firearm Video, Warn Politicians Against Displaying Weapons At Rallies

The Kano State Police Command has warned politicians and their supporters against displaying weapons during political activities, saying such conduct could threaten public peace and security.

The command also invited Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning over a video circulating on social media in which he was allegedly seen displaying a firearm suspected to be a pump-action rifle.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

Kiyawa said the video was discovered during the command’s routine cyber patrol and appeared to have been recorded at a political gathering.

Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed Warkal to report to the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

The police spokesman said Warkal was currently at the State Intelligence Department, where investigation into the matter was ongoing.

Kiyawa said the alleged unlawful display of the firearm, if established, could constitute a violation of the provisions of the Firearms Act.

He added that such conduct could create fear among residents, intimidate members of the public and threaten public peace.

The command warned that it would not tolerate lawlessness, thuggery or the display of weapons capable of causing insecurity, regardless of the status of those involved.

“The Command will not tolerate any act of lawlessness, thuggery, or display of weapons capable of threatening public peace, irrespective of the status of the person involved,” the statement said.

The police urged politicians, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct their activities peacefully and comply with relevant laws.

The command specifically advised political actors to abide by the Electoral Act, Firearms Act and other laws regulating public conduct.

It said all political activities should be conducted in a manner that promotes peace, tolerance and respect for the rule of law.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace in Kano State before, during and after the political season.
