Operation Fansan Yamma: Troops Overrun Lakurawa Terrorists’ Enclave, Neutralise Terrorists In Sokoto

Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorists’ enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and motorcycles.

The clearance operation was conducted on October 15, 2026, according to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force.

Danja said troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorists’ enclaves along Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest and made contact with the terrorists.

“During the firefight, troops dominated the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest,” he said.

The statement added that troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process.

“Further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and all life-support structures, as well as the recovery of weapons and five motorcycles,” Danja stated.

He said troops have continued to maintain a strong operational presence in the general area, sustaining clearance and domination operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and enhance the security of surrounding communities.

“The latest success underscores the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantling terrorist enclaves, denying terrorist elements safe havens and restoring lasting peace and security across the Joint Operations Area,” the statement read.

“The Theatre Command commends the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts, and urges members of the public to continue supporting ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.”
