“We’ll Reach The Poor Masses Through Their Leaders Because They Listen To Them” – Yari Unveils Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign Strategy

Former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, has unveiled President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign strategy, saying the party will reach the poor masses through their leaders because Nigerians listen to them, while also engaging the masses directly.

The former governor strategy is built on the reality of Nigerian politics where community, religious and traditional leaders command the loyalty of the people, and the APC intends to leverage that structure while also presenting its scorecard directly to ordinary Nigerians.

Yari disclosed this in an exclusive interview with DW Hausa anchored by Ubale Musa and monitored by Northern Nigeria Hub, where he stated that the campaign will adopt a two-pronged approach.

“We will reach the poor masses through their leaders because they listen to them,” Yari said, explaining the new direction. “Yes, there is what we need to do to reach the masses and it is already on the way. There is what we need to do with their leaders, because every citizen has a leader and he listens to his leader.”

He added: “So we have taken it as two options. We have done it without leaders and we are also going to the masses themselves to explain to them what we have done and what we will do by God’s grace.”

Atiku, Obi Lack National Spread – Yari

Speaking of the opposition, Yari dismissed the threat posed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, saying elections are about calculation and none of them has the spread to win.

“Elections are elections, and whoever is contesting has not finished until it is finished. So what we are doing is seeking, it is a normal thing. But there is no problem, God is with us, we are here, we can do it and it is calculation. If you calculate from the time of Buhari till now, there is something that calculation will give you on its own,” he said.

He drew a parallel with former President Muhammadu Buhari’s journey to the presidency:

“As we know in northern Nigeria, there is no person who was strong in his own house like Muhammadu Buhari. But despite that, Buhari won the North, he won twelve states, thirteen states, ten states, but God did not make him become president until he picked his running mates from the South-West, combined with the North and then it was done.”

According to Yari, no candidate from the South or North currently enjoys that kind of cross-regional confidence except Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

“Any candidate from the South or from the North does not have that kind of confidence in one region that he thinks they can combine to give him that vote. But Asiwaju has that, by God’s grace, not less than majority, whether you like it or not, you will say Asiwaju has at least forty-five or fifty-five percent of the votes of northern Nigeria,” he declared.

No Government In The World Shares Money, Fuel Subsidy Return Impossible – Yari

On the debate about return of fuel subsidy and economic hardship, Yari said bringing back subsidy is impossible and would amount to mortgaging the future of Nigerians.

“That is a different discussion, but the talk of fuel subsidy, you know it is something that has never been possible, whoever says he will return it is just talking for himself. The truth is, it is impossible, never, no one will do that. It is debt in Nigeria, gathering your children, your grandchildren’s debt to pay fuel subsidy, and fuel alone is not the only transaction in life in the Nigerian economy,” he said.

He defended the administration’s economic record with food prices:

“Now if you check, the reduction in food, from 85,000 to 50,000, 52,000, guinea corn from 80,000 to 35,000, 37,000 to 40,000, isn’t it not done?”

He queried those complaining of hunger:

“Has the government ever shared money? Is there any government that has ever given money from America to Saudi Arabia? Is there any in the world that gives money? You have to work. What is worrying is to say today there is no food. And there is food, to say the price is too high.”

“So what should be asked is, you who bought guinea corn at 80,000, today the government has tried to bring things down to 40,000 or 37,000, 35,000. So do you want to bring back a government that will return it to 80,000 for you?” Yari asked.

Insecurity Did Not Start Today, There Is Relief On Abuja-Kaduna Road – Yari

On insecurity, Yari said the problem did not start under the APC and insisted there has been improvement, especially on the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor.

“Did insecurity start today or did it start twenty years ago? You are here, you are living in Abuja, didn’t they start where they started now? Is the road that is being blocked from Kaduna to Abuja, Kaduna to Kano being done now?” he asked the interviewer.

When the interviewer interjected, “But even in Zamfara…”

Yari replied: “Is it being done? Is it not being done? What we are doing is blind because we know that this thing did not start in our time. We APC people tried to bring a general from the military house to come and solve this problem. But God did not make him reach its end, it still exists.”

He argued that security agents now have better equipment and have recorded successes:

“Today the security agents have enough equipment for work. If you take an example from Kaduna to Birnin Gwari everyone will know that there is relief. If you take that from Abuja to Kaduna to Kano you will know that there is relief. What is happening now is normal, despite the fact that it is the rainy season, I know that they are suffering and in the dry season they get rest because security agents don’t have access to roads to attack them.”

On Tinubu’s Campaign Flag-Off

Asked when President Tinubu will hit the campaign trail, Yari said simply:

“By God’s grace, not long from now.”
