BREAKING: Atiku Endorses ” Tinubu Must Go” Campaign, Claims 73.6% Victory In Group’s Poll Of 109,799 Voters
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally endorsed the Tinubu Must Go #TMG Nationwide Campaign and adopted the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as its preferred platform, days after the movement adopted him as the sole opposition candidate for 2027.
Atiku, in a statement on Sunday, said he received in audience Barr. Abba Hikima Fagge, Esq, one of the leading conveners of the movement, following the group’s recently concluded nationwide poll which recorded 109,799 respondents.
“I am particularly encouraged by the depth of citizen engagement reflected in the exercise, in which my candidacy received an overwhelming 73.6% of the votes, with the ADC emerging as the preferred political platform,” Atiku stated.
He said what is significant beyond the outcome is the larger aspiration it represents — a growing national yearning for change and collective determination to rescue Nigeria.
“I fully endorse the movement and invite all Nigerians who share this aspiration to join this noble cause. I also look forward to engaging with the wider national leadership of the Tinubu Must Go movement as we work together towards the larger objective of rebuilding a united, prosperous and democratic Nigeria,” Atiku added.
The endorsement comes just three days after the TMG movement announced on September 25, 2026 that it had adopted Atiku as its sole presidential candidate after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra Governor Peter Obi failed to agree on a joint ticket.
Convener of the group, Barr. Abba Hikima Fagge, who announced the decision in a video broadcast monitored by Northern Nigeria Hub, said the move was necessary to prevent vote-splitting that could hand President Bola Tinubu an easy victory in 2027.
According to Fagge, the live Facebook poll garnered over 109,000 votes and was reshared nearly 10,000 times, with the Atiku/Rotimi Amaechi ticket securing 73.6% against 24% for the Peter Obi/Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ticket, a margin he described as huge and decisive.
“Prior to this, we indicated that the public must unite, or the main candidates themselves should unite first. If they fail to unite, we understand that there is a need for us to unite, so that we can select a unified ticket that will prevent the splitting of our votes,” Fagge had stated.
He clarified that the adoption of Atiku was not out of hatred for Obi or Kwankwaso, whom he considers better than Tinubu, but out of love for Nigeria and the North and the need to liberate the country from hardship.
Defending the integrity of the poll against allegations of rigging, Fagge said no one can manipulate a Facebook Poll and that it was conducted live for everyone to see, adding that even if it does not fully capture the entire nation’s sentiment, it at least reflects Northern Nigeria which is a decisive voting bloc.
“Politics is fundamentally a game of numbers. Unity is our best path forward, and it is far easier to rally around the candidate who is already leading in the polls,” he said.
