NASENI Unveils Made-In-Nigeria Electric Vehicles, Solar Systems, Smartphones, Laptops, 40 Other Products

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, has developed and introduced over 40 made-in-Nigeria products, including electric vehicles, solar systems, laptops, smartphones and rapid diagnostic kits.

The agency disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday to mark three years of institutional reforms and technology commercialisation.

The products span renewable energy, transportation, agriculture, healthcare, information technology, clean cooking and education. They include electric tricycles, CNG conversion solutions, solar irrigation pumps, solar home systems, batteries, smartphones, tablets, laptops, televisions, diagnostic kits and clean cookstoves.

The development aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to boost local manufacturing, reduce import dependence and commercialise home-grown technologies under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

NASENI said its focus was to bridge the gap between research and industrial production by linking innovation with funding, manufacturing, skills and market access.

Its Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Halilu, said Nigeria has capable engineers and innovators but required stronger systems to take products to market.

“Nigeria has capable engineers, researchers and innovators. What has often been missing is a connected system that can identify promising ideas, develop them, finance them, manufacture them and take them to the market,” Halilu said.

The agency said it has digitised key processes, strengthened internal audit systems and introduced an Enterprise Resource Planning system, with an innovation-to-industry pipeline covering talent discovery, research funding, incubation, product development and market access.

In 2025, NASENI said it awarded N229m in research commercialisation grants to 14 researchers working on agriculture, clean energy, healthcare, mobility and digital security.

The agency is also developing a 40-hectare Solar Industrial Park in Gora, Nasarawa State, while an electric vehicle assembly facility is being developed at Abuja Technology Village. It said CNG conversion and reverse-engineering centres have been established in Abuja, while solar-powered irrigation technology is being deployed under the Irrigate Nigeria Project.

In healthcare, the NASENI-Troment Rapid Diagnostics Factory in Abuja is being developed to support local production of medical diagnostic products, while over 50 local and international partnerships have been established in renewable energy, automotive technology, agriculture, healthcare, defence and aerospace.

Halilu said the next phase will focus on scaling commercial production and that success will be measured by products manufactured and sold, jobs created and investments mobilised.
