“We Are Non-Partisan, We Are Neutral, We Protect Rights Of All ” — Borno Police
The Borno State Police Command has reaffirmed its non-partisan stance following public outrage and political narratives trailing the arrest of five suspects found with various drug substances and other illicit substances.
Addressing the press in a video statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the Command was forced to speak because certain individuals are using social media to push narratives capable of causing panic and breakdown of law and order.
“Hello, my name is ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, Borno State Police Command. I want to state it categorically that the Nigerian Police Force remain non-partisan in any political activities. We are neutral, and we need to protect the rights and integrity of every member of the public,” he said.
ASP Daso confirmed that the five suspects were arrested and have been charged to court, but concerns were raised by members of the public regarding their political affiliation to the T-shirt they wore which has an inscription.
He warned that this is a sensitive political period where some persons may push different narratives — some right, some wrong — and while the Command is open to constructive criticism, it will not compromise on any act that results in creating panic, tension, mayhem or inciting disturbance.
“We’ve been through a lot in the past few years, we’ve suffered a lot, which happened to be that our resilience has built us to this particular point where we are,” Daso said, stressing that safety of every citizen of Borno matters.
The PPRO called on all political actors irrespective of party to be concerned as Nigerian citizens, noting that when a case has been taken to court, the public should stay away to avoid legal action and allow courts to take action on anyone who violated the law.
He urged members of the public to be law-abiding, avoid drug abuse, illicit substance abuse and political thuggery, and verify information only from confirmed and verified handles to avoid fake news and misinformation.
